ENG 109 and the Writing Center:
The Writing Center's English 109 course allows you earn academic credit while gaining experience with writing and peer review. We give you short assignments and help you experiment with voice, detail, audience, argument, form, genre, and artistic madness. We want the course to cause your thoughts and feelings about writing to change in a way that causes your writing to change. There is no homework or textbook - all work is done in the Writing Center or in class. You supply the paper, ink, and effort, while we supply the environment and audience for your work. All we ask of you is that you write every time you come to the Writing Center, discuss each piece of writing with your tutor and/or group, and make a genuine commitment to improving your writing.

ENG 109 Grading Policy:
The grading scale for English 109 is: A, B, C, I, N. Since we're concerned with improving writing, changing approaches to writing, changing beliefs about writing, and boosting writers' confidence, your final grade will reflect how well you were able to make these sorts of changes where they were needed. The grade is not an absolute, objective indicator of writing quality or ability. It bears no qualitative relation to the grade you receive in English 111 or 112. Students can receive an A in 111 or 112 and a C in 109.
An I grade must be completed within the first five weeks of the next full 14 week term you're enrolled or within a year of when the incomplete grade was granted, whichever comes first.
Students who place into 109 for 1 credit must complete and pass that credit hour to receive their grade in English 111 or 112 and go on to more advanced course. Students required to take 3 credits of 109 must complete and pass 109 to go on to English 111.
