Protective Measures

The university offers protective measures to help those who have experienced sexual assault, domestic/dating violence, or stalking. These measures are available regardless of whether the person who requests them files a complaint with the university or through the criminal justice system.

COURT-ORDERED PERSONAL PROTECTION ORDERS

The university has staff who can provide information about obtaining courtordered personal protection orders, assist individuals in obtaining such orders, and assist with safety planning. Please contact the YWCA of Greater Flint or UM-Flint Department of Public Safety for assistance.

If you obtain a court-ordered personal protection order, please let UM-Flint‘s DPS know and provide them with a copy. The university will uphold such lawfully issued orders and enforce them through UM-Flint’s DPS.

The university will take appropriate steps to ensure that a person who in
good faith participates in a sexual misconduct investigation or resolution,
or assists others in doing so, or is accused of violating this policy will not
be subjected to retaliation. This protection exists even if a complaint is
dismissed or the respondent is not found to have violated this policy.
The university will take appropriate steps to ensure that all participants
in an investigation are treated fairly. Anyone who believes that he or she
is experiencing retaliation is strongly encouraged to report this concern
using the same procedure for reporting possible sexual misconduct under
this policy.
