Ken Sylvester


Ken has over 18 years research experience as an investigator on federally-funded projects, mainly in population and environment research. He is a historian with interdisciplinary training in quantitative and spatial analysis.  He earned his Ph.D. at York University, and M.A. and B.A. at the University of Waterloo.  


Erin Kingsley

Research Process Coordinator

Erin is responsible for pre-award proposal management and submission, post award accounting, financial management of the office.

Erin earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan and a Masters in Business Administration at the University of Michigan-Flint.


Andre Louis

Research Program Manager

Andre is responsible for providing project management support for faculty and staff, as well as managing the initiatives emphasizing undergraduate research. He is the manager of the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, co-coordinator of both the Meeting of Minds Undergraduate Research Conference, and the UM-Flint Student Research Conference, the Brand Administrator for the University's Qualtrics system, and the contact for research poster printing.

Andre earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees at the University of Michigan-Flint.


Mary Mandeville

Research Compliance Specialist

Mary is responsible for assisting the campus community with issues regarding Human Subjects Protection and Research Compliance; and is the campus contact for training and administration of the eResearch Regulatory Management system. In her capacity, Mary works closely with the chair of the Institutional Review Board.
Mary earned her Bachelor's Degree from Michigan State University, her Master's Degree from Kansas State University, and an MBA from Eastern Michigan University. Additionally, Mary is a Certified IRB Professional (CIP).  Certification is from the Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIMR).



Lola Carter

Research Receptionist

Lola is responsible for receiving visitors and screening incoming calls.  She also performs data entry, assists with the processing of faculty research proposals, and provides support for the Research and Creative Activity Committee meetings.

Lola earned her B.A. in Social Work, with a minor in Sociology at the University of Michigan-Flint in May 2003. In 2013, she received an Associates degree in Business Management from Mott Community College.
