Drs. Suzuki and Parker awarded federal grant on disabilities research...

With the UM researchers, Drs. Suzuki and Parker have been awarded the federal grant from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) to establish a Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) program at U-M. Dr. Suzuki is the project director and Dr. Parker is a co-investigator. PHHS is in charge of conducting surveys in Flint and Detroit disability communities.

MPH Student Wins Best Oral Presentation Award 

Jennifer Okungbowa- Ikponmwosa presented in the oral presentation category alongside graduate students and medical students from various universities across Michigan. She presented her research from her master’s degree capstone in response to the Flint water crisis. Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, Director the Pediatric Residency Program at Hurley Medical Center, who helped uncover the Flint Water Crisis, attended Jennifer’s presentation.

Health Education Video Project Winners

A community engagement partnership between Genesys Heart Institute and the University of Michigan Flint provided students an opportunity to engage in a community health education project.  The students produced videos focused on the causes and prevention of heart disease in Flint and Genesee County.

New Bachelors of Science in Respiratory Therapy 

The Bachelors of Science in Respiratory Therapy  (BSRT) online degree completion program is designed to provide a comprehensive education in advanced respiratory care.  The program will start in the fall of 2017.  Successful degree completion prepares students to sit for specialty credentialing exams administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). 

Admissions Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an Accredited Institution
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credential
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
