Through University Outreach centers and programs, the University has developed meaningful partnerships with community organizations and K thru 12 students in the Flint-area. University Outreach is composed of the following:

Through the Center for Civic Engagement, students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to collaborate on projects with community organizations and local schools. Service learning is a way of teaching concepts to students by engaging them in service projects in the community. School Partnerships provides quality after-school programs to enhance academic skills and learning through partnerships with K-12 institutions.

The Center for Applied Environmental Research (CAER) combines technical consultation, education, facilitation and research with creative applications of geographic information systems (GIS). From its inception, the Center has earned a reputation for excellence in the water protection area. The Center has worked with a number of communities and organizations in east-central Michigan to help balance their groundwater and surface water concerns with development and economic growth issues.

LAUNCH connects the resources of the University of Michigan-Flint and the community to promote local talent, support regional networks, advance national trends and explore international possibilities.
