Accelerated 2nd Degree Program

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN – FLINT/HURLEY MEDICAL CENTER Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

 

The next group of Accelerated 2nd Degree students will enter Fall Semester 2009.  The Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN Program is a 16-month program.  You must have a completed  Bachelor's degree before beginning the program. 


 

Program Prerequisites:  

  • PSY 237            Developmental Psychology (across the Lifespan)
  • BIO 167/168     Anatomy & Physiology (two semesters)
  • BIO 135             Microbiology (with lab)
  • CHM 252           Biological Chemistry for Nursing
  • NSC 233           Pharmacology
  • NSC 207           Disease Processes & the Human System
                                  (Pathophysiology)
  • NSC 209           Nutrition
  • NUR 120           Basic Nursing Skills, or successful completion of a Nurse Assistant program (CNA certificate is not required)

 

 

Required Grade:  A C+ minimum grade is required for all prerequisite courses with the exception of Chemistry.  A minimum C grade is required for CHM 252.

Special Notes:            
     -- BIO 167 and BIO 168 must both be taken at the same institution.
     --SWR 301 or SWK 320 are also accepted in place of PSY 237.
     --Biology credits must be no more than seven years old. (BIO 167, 168, 135) 
     --Students with previous CHM courses:  A combination of courses may be used to fulfill the CHM 252 requirement.  Consult the Nursing department to determine this.


 The Nurse Entrance Test (NET) is required for all 2nd Degree applicants.  Contact the Department of Nursing at 810-762-3420 for information on registering for the NET.  Note that the NET is only offered at UM-Flint on the 1st Friday of each month from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
