Martha (M.D.) Matlock is the Associate Director of Residential Life in the Office of Housing and Residential Life. M.D. manages the day-to-day residential components of living on campus and strives to ensure that students are having a comfortable and enjoyable living experience. She supervises the residential life staff within the communities.
M.D.’s academic achievements include a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology as well as her Masters of Science degree in College Student Personnel Services & Administration from the University of Central Arkansas, in Conway Arkansas. Prior to her arrival at University of Michigan-Flint, she was the Assistant Director for Residence Education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. M.D. started her career in Higher Education at The University of Georgia as a Residence Hall Director.
Outside of her career, M.D. enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, shopping, watching reality TV, and cheering on those Georgia Bulldogs and Dallas Cowboys!
Sara Groat is the Assistant Director of Housing in the Office of Housing and Residential Life. She coordinates a number of projects including our Guest Housing Services and facilities management to ensure daily operations run efficiently.
Sara’s academic achievements include graduation from Saginaw Valley State University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and master’s degree focusing on College Student Affairs Administration. Before coming to the University of Michigan-Flint she worked in private off-campus housing and student life.
Aside from work, Sara enjoys gardening, golfing, spending time with family/friends and anything outside.
Alex Straley is the Housing Coordinator in the Office of Housing and Residential Life. She handles all housing assignments for both Riverfront Residence Hall and First Street Residence Hall. She joined us at the university mid-2016 and brings a variety of experience with her. Her most recent position was in the private student housing industry managing all housing assignments of a 525-bed facilitiy. Prior to that she was a Resident Director at Saginaw Valley State University and Residence Coordinator at the University of British Columbia.
Alex holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from Saginaw Valley State University.
In her spare time, Alex enjoys cheering on Tomas Tatar of the Detroit Red Wings and practicing yoga.
Laura King serves as the Administrative support for Housing and Residential Life. She processes all procurement, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, budget-related tracking, as well as, a variety of other tasks related to the office oversight. Laura brings years of experience from both the Ann Arbor Campus and the Health System to her current position.
Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Michigan-Flint, and is currently enrolled in the Masters of English Language and Literature program here.
In her free time she enjoys gardening, cooking, concerts, home improvements, and spending time with her family/friends and fur babies.
