Why study Education?
The field of Education is constantly changing and the demand for well-trained teaching professionals continues to increase. Pursuing graduate study in Education at the University of Michigan-Flint prepares you to meet these demands. Graduate students in the Education field can choose from several specializations and endorsements.
Specializations:
Master of Arts in Elementary Education with Teacher Certification (MAC). This program is designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree and would like to earn their elementary teaching certification along with an advanced degree. The MAC program can be completed as one year, full time program or as a two year, part time program.
Early Childhood Education Specialization. This specialization is designed for individuals already certified to teach at the elementary level and are looking to be qualified to teach young children in the birth through 8 years age bracket.
Literacy K-12 Specialization. This specialization is available for individuals already certified to teach elementary or secondary education. The program focuses on issues and practices related to the language arts. This program leads to a State of Michigan endorsement in Reading Specialist (BR) in grades K-12. This endorsement certifies students to teach reading as a specialization and serve as a building resource for grades K-12.
Technology in Education Specialization. This specialization is designed for students interested in the use of technology in the learning environment. This program offers a mix of online coursework and some on campus meetings. Teaching certification is not required for admission into this program.

Special Education. An 18-credit-hour master’s degree program focused on providing knowledge and training for working with special needs students. Endorsements in Learning Disabilities and Cognitive Impairments are also available to add on to your degree.
Early Childhood (ZA) Endorsement. Not quite ready to pursue your Master of Education? This endorsement is for students who want to add the early childhood endorsement to their resume instead of earning a Master’s degree.
