Testing & Level Placement

Students who do not meet the University of Michigan-Flint’s language proficiency requirement are enrolled in the ELP and take the English Placement Test (EPT) during orientation or on specified testing dates. The EPT measures students’ levels of reading and listening comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and writing. Incoming students are placed into the appropriate level class based on the results of the placement test.

Level Promotion

Students advance in levels by successfully completing the course requirements (with a grade of ‘C’ or better) and by making sufficient improvement in their English language proficiency.
