The English Language Program (ELP) is an Intensive English Program designed to develop students’ skills in reading, vocabulary, writing, grammar, listening and speaking for academic purposes. Students that do not meet the University of Michigan-Flint language proficiency requirement take a language placement exam upon arrival and are placed into the appropriate level English courses.
Full time ELP students receive 22 hours of instruction per week in English and American culture. We also have computer lab time, workshops, and civic engagement as key components of our program. Our small class sizes provide a learning atmosphere that encourages interaction and student input.
The English courses are taught by TESOL trained instructors who have experience teaching and living abroad. In addition to academics, the program immerses students in the local community and offers organized, activities on and off campus.
