Before You Arrive

academic steps
  1. Apply and upload documents to UM-Flint. The undergraduate application starts here and the graduate application starts here.
  2. Register for International Student Orientation here after you have been admitted.
  3. Pay SEVIS fee online here.
  4. Set up an appointment at a US Consulate or Embassy to apply for the F-1 student visa.
  5. Bring the following to your US Consulate appointment 
    1. SEVIS fee receipt
    2. UM-Flint admission letter 
    3. Form I-20 
    4. Proof of financial support
    5. Your passport
  6. Log in here and enter your uniqname and password. Check your UM-Flint email account often for important information and updates.
  7. Connect with your Academic Advisor. Log in to Student Information System (SIS) and  
    1. Click Student Services
    2. Click Student Records
    3. Click View Your Academic Advisor
  8. Log in to (SIS) to register for courses online.
logistical steps
  1. Check the term start dates for when you plan to attend.
  2. Plan on entering the United States no more than 30 days before the start date on your I-20.
  3. Purchase your flight tickets. The closest airport is Flint Bishop International Airport, airport code FNT. Other major airports include Detroit (DTW) and Chicago (CHI)
  4. Give your flight information to the International Center as soon as you have it. If needed, arrange for pick-up service from the airport through the International Center 
  5. Investigate on and off campus housing options here.
