University of Michigan-Flint

Temporary Employment

Statement of Student Employment Intent
It is the intent of the University of Michigan-Flint to provide each student with the fullest and richest educational experience possible. Frequently, that experience may include an employment opportunity in conjunction with the university's work-study program or through direct temporary employment by an institutional unit. Many of these employment opportunities provide the student with valuable work experience and financial assistance while helping the institutional units meet their operational needs. At the same time, working an excessive number of hours on a regular basis may have a detrimental effect on the student's academic achievement. Supervisors must keep in mind that the best interest of the student is the top priority in these employment arrangements and should exercise their judgment accordingly.

Deadlines for Processing of Paperwork and Submitting Timesheets: Our office strives to enter paperwork and timesheets as quickly as we can. However, due to audits and checking of data entry, we must have deadlines in order to guarantee entry for the next appropriate payroll run.

Additional Temporary Hourly Appointments:  If a temporary employee is adding a second job to your department or to another department, you only need to complete Page 2 in order to add the additional appointment.  However, you must verify that the employee has an active appointment as a temporary employee in order to add another appointment to the system.  You can do this by checking Wolverine Access.  If you do not have authorization for Wolverine Access, please send an email to Flint-HRAA-Service@umflint.edu requesting access.

For most modifications of an active appointment or additional appointments, only page 2 of the temporary employment form needs to be completed. Please contact our office with any questions.
