INSURANCE

Should I get renters insurance?

While we don’t require renters insurance it is always a good option. Housing and Residential Life does not cover damage or stolen items. Renters insurance is normally reasonably priced and a good idea. If your parents own a house you can always check the coverage on their home owners insurance to see if it covers your items in the residence hall.

YOUR SUITE/ROOM

What comes in my suite/room?

What are the dimensions of my suite, room and furniture?

Can I check out my new room when I’m at Orientation?

When you are at orientation your day is jam packed with activities and it is hard to find time to go on a residence hall tour. We would love for you to come back at a different time to tour your new home. Click here to sign up for a tour of the residence hall. There is a sample of all different room types on the tour so you can get a good idea of what your suite/room will look like.

Can I bring carpet?

The floors in your suite/room are wood laminate. If you would like to bring an area rug or carpet you are more than welcome. You can not get carpet installed in your suite/room.

What if I want to bring my own furniture?

Your suite/room is fully furnished, but if you would like to bring in additional items that is fine. All furniture that is provided must stay in the suite throughout the duration of the year.

Can I decorate my room?

Absolutely! We want you to make your room have a personality. When you decorate you need to keep in mind the guidelines that have been created to keep the residence hall in good condition. You can not drill holes in the wall or paint, but check the “Resident’s Guide to Community Living” for more details on items that are allowed in the hall.

PACKING

What should I pack?

We have put together a list of items that you might want to bring with you. Click here to see our “What to Bring” guide. We also encourage you to talk to your room/suitemates about what they plan to bring, that way you won’t have duplicate items.

IMMUNIZATIONS

What immunizations do I need?

You should have up-to-date immunizations before arriving on campus. Routine immunizations include meningitis, measles/mumps/rubella, tetanus-diphtheria, polio, hepatitis B and chicken pox. Visit http://www.umflint.edu/housing/immunization.htm for more details.
