Living Learning Communities

Living Learning communities are centered in the residence hall, promoting collaborative learning and interaction between students and faculty.  Students live in small, scholarly, and diverse groups that link intellectual ideas and good friendships that often last a lifetime.

Honors Living Learning Community

Thrive in a high-achieving, intellectual atmosphere.  Live and learn in an environment that promotes quiet study hours, organizes study groups, plans cultural events, and fosters faculty mentorship.  Participate in service learning opportunities and discover the benefits of undergraduate research.  Open only to members of the UM-Flint Honors Program.

First Year Experience (FYE) Program

The FYE program strives to help first year students clarify goals, grow personally and socially and excel academically through linkages with faculty, campus programs, academic departments, services, resources and individuals.  In this community, General Education at the University of Michigan-Flint begins with an FYE class offered by a team of faculty whose goal it is to connect participants to each other, to the people and resources who can help them navigate student life, and to connect learning to the real world through assignments and field experiences that ask participants to apply what they are learning to specific civic challenges on the local, state, national or even global scale.

Entrepreneurship and Multinational Business Community

The Entrepreneurship and Multinational Business (EMB) living learning community is designed to enable students to begin building a network of people who are interested in, active in, and doing research in the business arena. Participants will ‘shadow’ a professional in their special field of interest. The EMB group will meet with expatriates and people involved in the selection and training of people for international assignments. Further, EMB members will listen to successful and unsuccessful entrepreneurs and learn from their experience. Sponsors will be available to help EMB members choose and design a course of study that will most benefit them as they prepare for their business career. During the year, students will concentrate on building relationships and developing knowledge of the ‘real world’ of business.
