Physical Therapy Programs

The University of Michigan-Flint offers multiple educational opportunities for entry-level and post-professional study in the field of physical therapy. Click one of the links here to jump to a specific program, or read the brief descriptions of each below.

Professional (Entry-Level) DPT
This full time, campus-based degree program is offered to students who have (or will have) earned a bachelors degree and wish to become a physical therapist. It is a clinical doctorate that signifies a level of competency to practice within the scope of physical therapy. A clinical doctor degree prepares the student to perform all the duties necessary for clinical practice and therefore has clinical application rather than an academic application as found in a Ph.D. degree. In order to meet the needs of a direct access health care market and autonomous practice, the entry-level practitioner will require the privileges and responsibilities that a clinical doctorate affords.

Post-Professional Transitional DPT (t-DPT) [proposed]
This (proposed) online, post-professional t-DPT program is offered for currently practicing physical therapists who are interested in augmenting their education and earning a DPT. The t-DPT also allows simultaneous completion of one or more clinical certificates (if desired). The program will begin with the Spring 2009 term.

Physical Therapy Clinical Certificates [proposed]
This (proposed) online, post-professional program offers practicing physical therapists advanced study in an area of clinical specialization (orthopedics, neurology, geriatrics, pediatrics, and cardiopulmonary). It is first offered for with the Fall 2009 term.
