Health Education (MS) - Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements for admission:
- Proof of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- A minimum 2.8 undergraduate grade point average
- Completion of all prerequisites (see following list)
Admission into the Master of Science in Health Education program is determined by the Health Sciences and Administration committee following a review of applications. See “Application Deadlines” below for more information about application review.
Prerequisites
A. BIO 167: Human Anatomy and Physiology or an equivalent course
B. COM/THE 210: Introduction to Public Speaking, an equivalent course, or relevant experience
C. PSY 237: Introduction to Developmental Psychology or an equivalent course
Application Process
To be considered for admission, an applicant must submit the following to the Office of Graduate Programs, 251 Thompson Library, by the application deadline:
- Application for Graduate Admission (apply online or with a paper application)
- Application fee (non-refundable) payable to the University of Michigan-Flint
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- Statement of Purpose describing the applicant's current and past work experience, interest in the field of health education, interest in the UM-Flint MS in Health Education program, and career expectations and employment in the future. The Admissions Committee will be reviewing the content of the statement, as well as using it to assess the applicant's writing ability. The Admissions Committee will place strong emphasis on the written statement of purpose. Be sure that the applicant's name appears on the statement of purpose.
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals knowledgeable of the applicant’s potential for advanced academic study
- International students must submit additional documentation
Application Deadlines
The program has rolling admissions and reviews completed applications each month. Though completed applications may be considered up to the beginning of a term, suggested application deadlines are published to allow sufficient time for the applicant to gather required materials and receive fair consideration. To be considered for admission, an applicant should submit all application materials to the Office of Graduate Programs on or before the application deadline.
Application deadlines are as follows:

*You must apply by the early deadline to be eligible for scholarships, grants, and research asssistantships.
International students are required to apply earlier than the deadlines posted here. The final deadlines for international students are May 1 for the fall semester, September 1 for the winter semester, and January 1 for the spring term.
