Directed Readings and Theses
Considering an individualized project? Read the guidelines and start planning early.
ENG 590 allows a student to pursue a focused examination of a topic in English studies. The fact that fewer conferences occur in directed readings courses than class-meetings in a conventional course dictates both an intensive participation in conferences and a considerably greater amount of reading, writing, or other investigation.
ENG 592 and 593 allow students to pursue a two-semester, culminating thesis project that makes an original contribution to English studies. In the first semester, students will take ENG 592. With satisfactory performance, a Y grade will be recorded. In the second semester, students will take ENG 593, which carries a $25 thesis-binding fee. When all thesis requirements outlined below have been completed, a final grade will be assigned for both ENG 592 and 593.
