Admissions Checklist for Transfer Students

If you’re interested in transferring your credits to the University of Michigan-Flint, we’ll help walk you through the process here (Printer-friendly version):

  1. Visit our campus: If you haven’t already, we strongly encourage you to visit our campus and see for yourself firsthand if University of Michigan-Flint is a good fit for you.

  2. Apply: Submit a completed application. Apply online or download a printable version.

  3. Application Fee: Mail in your $30 application fee.

  4. Submit Transcripts: Submit transcripts from all prior post-secondary schools attended, including: junior/community colleges, colleges or universities. High school transcripts are requested if you have earned less than 12 college/university credits.

  5. Supporting Documents: Submit all supporting documents with your application for admission. This includes essays, résumés and letters of recommendation.

  6. Request for Fee Waiver: If you wish to request a waiver of the application fee for reasons of financial hardship, download and complete the Request for Fee Waiver form and return it to the Office of Admissions.

  7. Admission: You will be notified of our decision within 2-4 weeks of application submission and receipt of all required documentation.


 Transfer of Credits:

  • All acceptable college courses that appear on an official transcript and have been completed at another regionally accredited* institution for which a letter grade of “C” or better has been earned will be given University of Michigan-Flint degree-seeking credit.

  • It is a requirement that all transfer students must earn a minimum of 45 semester hours at University of Michigan-Flint, including the last 30 hours. Students also must satisfy all requirements for the degree that they are pursuing.

  • Exceptions to this policy can be considered only by petition to the appropriate Academic Standards Committee.

* To be considered for transfer equivalency, course work must be completed at an institution that is fully accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: New England, Middle States, Southern, North Central, Western, and Northwest.
